Before we get into bottles, let’s consider the most common serving size. The workhorse of the alcohol industry. The shot.

The standard shot in the U.S. is 1.5 ounces. Some establishments pour lighter 1.25-ounce pours. Some pour heavier than 1.5, though not often.

Fun fact, the state of Utah mandates that no establishment licensed to serve liquor pour shots over 1.5 ounces.

How Many Ounces Are in a Double Shot?

A double shot is typically 2.5 ounces of liquor.

How Many Ml in a Shot?

One US fluid ounce is 29.57 ml. That means there are 44.36 ml in a standard 1.5-ounce shot.

Pro tip: To convert fluid ounces to ml, multiply the ounces by 29.57.

How Big Is a Fifth of Liquor?

A fifth of liquor is 750ml. It's the most common size of liquor bottle in the U.S.

How Many Ounces Are in a 750ml bottle?

This is the same as asking “How many ounces are in a fifth?” There are 25.36 ounces in a fifth of liquor or a 750ml bottle.

How Many Shots Are in a 750ml bottle?

There are approximately 17 1.5-ounce shots in a 750ml bottle of alcohol.

Why Are Liquor Bottles 750ml?

In the late 19th century, ⅕ of a gallon was the legal threshold for individual commercial alcohol sales. Anything larger and you had to go wholesale. For this reason, fifths were also called commercial quarts.

How Big Is a Handle of Liquor?

A handle of liquor is a half gallon or 1.75 liters. That’s big enough to have a handle on the bottle, hence the name.

There are approximately 59.18 ounces in a handle of liquor.

How Big Is a Pint?

A pint is 375 ml. More often found as a serving size than a bottle size, there are of course pint bottles out there. Both for beer and liquor.

There are approximately 12.68 ounces in a pint.

How Many Shots In a Pint?

A pint has 8 1.5-ounce shots in it.

How Big Is a Liter?

A liter bottle of liquor is 1,000 ml or 1 liter. That makes it 25% larger than a standard 750ml fifth.

How Many Ounces in a Liter?

There are approximately 33.82 ounces in a liter.

How Many Shots in a Liter?

There are 22 1.5-ounce shots in a liter.
