As an ode to the popular Negroni cocktail, Kimpton Group Beverage Director Emily Wines convinced members of her staff, already consummate performers behind the bar, to take their show on stage. Sporting audacious mullets and platform shoes, the 1980’s big hair band performed a hilarious spoof performance at the 2013 Aspen Food and Wine Classic.
Juliette Pope, the famed sommelier at Gramercy Park, has also been revitalizing the sommelier role. Emily Wines, Juliette Pope and two other female sommeliers – June Rodil and Laura Maniec – are taking the beverage world by storm as Bloomberg news noted in a recent article,
“Sex and the Sommelier, Make Way for Women.”

All four innovative sommeliers are revolutionizing the once traditionally male-dominated profession.
As Master Beverage Director for McGuire-Moorman Hospitality Group, June Rodil manages the wine, beer and spirits list for six different restaurants in the Austin, Texas area. Emily Wines is the Senior Director of the national food and beverage program for Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants. Laura Maniec operates her Manhatten-based Corkbuzz wine bar in three different locations. Juliette Pope has been employed by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group as Beverage Director at Gramercy Park for almost two decades.
Not just your average wine experts, they are upping their game by throwing convention and pretension aside.
